About me.

Moi?

Yes, 'tis I.................O'Neal Compton.

Obviously, this ABOUT page is years out of date, but I have resisted taking it down, because it somehow seemed to say something succinct and hopeful about my journey. I'd like to think that the same spirit of adventure that made me a rootless nomad for much of my life, has brought me home  to South Carolina. (NOTE: I did NOT say that a spirit moved me here.)

I came home in the fall of 2007 because I knew that the South Carolina Presidential Primary in January could make or break the Obama bandwagon. Well,l it was all that and more. I had the time of my life for a couple of cold winter months doing my small part to see that Barack Obama became President of the United States. (See the short documentary, Homeboys for Change-- BarackObamaQue by David Boatwright-- in the right column.)

As you will probably remember, our guy mopped the floor with his opponents in South Carolina that day in January, 2008.  Being close to politics again was pretty exciting for me, so I decided to stay a little while longer. I ran six legislative races in 2008 and won 'em all. (What did Dizzy Dean say when discussing his heroics on the mound? "It ain't braggin' if ya done it!" )

I produced a one hour political radio talk show on the Air America affiliate in Columbia for the three months proceeding the election. I started a blues band and played and sang all over the state.

Then last year, I moved to the beach, fell in love with Charleston again (it's been a long and torrid 40-year affair, I want you to know,) and here I am, settled in my wonderful house with a garden.

So for now, that's it. I'm here at home and living large, surrounded by my 20 neices and nephews. Pretty great. I'll tell ya.

I am doing my best to keep up with the blog (now in it's fourth season,) even though I don't get something up every single day. But whatever I do manage post for you, dear readers, is packaged with much love for you and humanity.

Serious correspondence is welcome: blues@onealcompton.com
